LOS ANGELES, CA. (May 26, 2003) — Consumers currently in a reading group or those looking to start one, will find the newly launched website an integral part of getting started and keeping organized. Launched at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books in April, is a community-based website that offers public and members-only access via a menu of unique tools and resources to help organize and communicate instantly, purchase books, and obtain quality information to enhance the selection, reading, and discussion of all types of books. was created to facilitate and enliven book clubs by offering convenient tools to connect members to each other. The website's unique proprietary Member Home Page feature allows members to instantly create and access their own community. For only $15 per person, per year, readers can join as an individual or as a group and customize their home page within minutes.


Each member home page includes a calendar for scheduling meeting dates and other events and a feature to automatically display a current book selection with cover image and link to purchase online. A member directory connected to an e-mail tool and a private bulletin board allow for instant communication within groups.


"We know how busy people are and the time it takes to filter through all the fiction and non-fiction choices and author information," said Paula Shackleton, president and founder of BookBuffet LLC. "Whether members are individuals or in a group, discussing books online or in person, our goal is to help book groups stay current and provocative, in-touch and organized."


On the public home page, presents a literary calendar and a features section of the latest book news, author profiles and interviews, books-to-film, and other articles of interest that is accessible to both members and non-members. Recent features included two author promotions that offered new members opportunities to win books for their book club: Jonathan Safran Foer (Everything is Illuminated, HarperCollins) in May 2003 and Lynette Brasfield (Nature Lessons, St. Martins) in June 2003. Each author promotion included an author interview along with random entry drawings to win 10 copies of the author's book.


All members have access to an archive of books that have been rated, reviewed, and annotated with research links by book groups. Members also have access to recommended website links—newspaper and magazine book reviews, author websites, author interviews, criticism, and background information. There is a monthly, moderated on-line discussion for members, as well as a general member board to share thoughts, find new members, and find new groups.


"Our vision is to create a lively and user-friendly website with a club-like feel that book groups can call home," said Shackleton.
