Learn About Wine While You Discuss Books: BookBuffet Partners with Women & Wine

BookBuffet Founder Paula Shackleton announces a new partnership with Women & Wine, a website dedicated toward educating women about wine and offering fabulous trips to wine country. You already drink wine while discussing books -- why not present wines with books as chosen by experts? Wait -- there's a great launch party!

September 15, 2005

When Julie Brosterman launched Women & Wine last spring, the notion of "women and wine" captured the attention of media -- NBC Nightly News, CNN, USA Today, etc., immediately ran stories. Sharon Boorstin was asked to travel to Santa Barbara wine country as a journalist writing for More Magazine. She loved the concept so much she got on board and became Women & Wine's Editorial Director for a whole new website re-design with an expanded concept including education, wine sales, the first women-only wine club, and trips to wine country around the world. The new version launches in October.

Women & Wine approached BookBuffet to join in as -- everyone knows women drink wine at book club!  With BookBuffet's four years of experience picking book club titles and our monthly hits reaching 200,000, what a better way to meld readers and enophiles.

Look for our permanent spot on the BookBuffet homepage for the Wine & Book Group Pick of the Month -- then click to Women & Wine for their delicious liquid match -- one wine at three different price points; something for every budget, adventure or splurge.

How Do We Choose The Books?

BookBuffet looks at a number of different factors: well-reviewed titles, authors of note, theme, regional considerations, publish date, timing of an upcoming film adaptation, a revisited classic coordinated with an important anniversary, and variety of genres.  You will love this line-up of books!

How Does Women and Wine Select The Wine?

Women & Wine's panel of female vintners, sommeliers, and food experts together pair the wine by region and style, wine-maker's personality, perhaps the book's setting, theme or some other clever concept. Only delicious-tasting wines make the cut.

When Does It All Begin?

November 10th, 2005, our partnership launch party, "An Italian Renaissance Intrigue," takes place in a wonderful private chateau in Whistler, BC, during the ski & snowboard destination resort's Cornucopia Food and Wine Celebration. The first book featured will be introduced by the author herself, Pauline Holdstock.

About The Book & Author

Pauline Holdstock's sixth novel is titled (left) Beyond Measure (Cormorant in Canada), and (right) A Rare and Curious Gift  (Norton in America).[Book titles and cover art varies with the publisher used in different countries.] This book was short-listed for the prestigious Giller Prize 2004, and won the BC Book of the Year Award.

It is a historical fiction set in sixteenth-century Italy. The tale spins its web of jealousy, passion, beauty, and brutality around the painter Sofonisba, Tassi the bronze-castrr and the parti-colored slave, Chiara, who comes between them.

Celebrity Chef

Celebrity Chef Lesley Stowe , creator of  Raincoast Crisps® , provides tantalizing Tuscan toppings to accompany the evening.
