Village Books Event

abstract:

BookBuffet hosted a night of "Getting Your Book Group Online" with independent Palisades book store owner Katie for local book group members.  The evening was a great success and we thank everyone who attended and contributed to the discussion.

article:

March 27, 2003
— Book Group members from the Palisades, California area were seeking methods to improve their book group experience, promote livelier discussions, and to learn how to establish or re-establish ground rules that would keep discussion on track.

Many attendees reported that their book groups had been drifting for some time and needed to re-establish basics in order to focus on the joys of reading and discussing good literature. The evening's discussion centered around fun techniques for re-focusing attention on the book along with the myriad of online resources available—including our own Bookbuffet.com as a valuable tool.

The cornerstones of Bookbuffet.com were discussed and demonstrated:

  • how to organize book groups
  • how to improve communication
  • how to facilitate research
  • how to broaden book selections
  • techniques and tips for leading and carrying disscussions
  • and how to collaborate with your local independent book sellers, an invaluable resource with their in-depth knowledge of books and understanding of regional tastes, their liasion with local writers, and their enthusiasm for their community of readers.

Thank you to everyone who attended for your enthusiasm and support! Special thanks to Katie and her staff at Village Books and the Palasadian Post.
