Out-of-Print, Not Out of Mind
A recent article in Toronto’s Globe and Mail ran the headline, “Readers Still Want Sex”. That’s Sex, as in Madonna’s infamous photography book published in 1992 and long since out-of-print.
December 15, 2003 — The article looks at the most popular out-of-print books based on readers’ requests through BookFinder.com, an online service that tracks o.p. and hard to find books. What does it mean that the number one request is Sex, and the number two request is Winston Churchill’s World Crisis? The article tries to figure it out, saying that while “BookFinder.com's list reflects more than the latest round of releases from publishing companies… Still, booksellers aren’t entirely convinced that the top out-of-print books reflect society’s real reading interests.”
