What do Judi Dench, Nicole Kidman, and Gwyneth Paltrow have in common?

August 28, 2003
— Each have portrayed notable literary women in recent film productions, inspiring new interest in their respective author's lives and creative works: Judi Dench as Iris Murdoch (Iris), Nicole Kidman as Virignia Woolf (The Hours), and now Gwyneth Paltrow as Sylvia Plath.

Paltrow appears in the upcoming (October 17th release) film, Sylvia. This much anticipated film about the poet and mother whose ill-fated marriage poet Ted Hughes and her personal inner demons led to her tragic demise, has Plath scholars and fans divided. Some are aghast that her life has been turned into a movie, others are excited.

However your feelings, Sylvia Plath's poetry and prose is worth reading and discussing. Why not have each member of your group select a different book/topic and review together at your upcoming discussion? Then take a field trip together to see the film in October.
