Devoted Reader

abstract:A critically acclaimed book vanishes, its author forgotten. For one reader, the end of the book becomes the beginning of the story in the documentary Stone Reader.

article:

May 18, 2003
— Filmmaker Mark Moskowitz finally get arounds to reading a novel he bought back in 1971 when it was published to rave reviews: The Stones of Summer by Dow Mossman. Looking for information on the author, he discovers that both Mossman and his book have long since vanished and sets out on a literary odssey for answers to this mystery.

Stone Reader is a feature-length documentary of Moskowitz's search. It's a fascinating film that reveals the singular bond literature can create among strangers and explores the phenomenon of "one-shot" first novels. Most of all, the film is a love story between a reader and a book.  This is a film that you won't want to miss.
