Barbara Walters' New Autobiography

abstract:Since I don't have television, it's difficult to keep up with daytime shows like Oprah. But I happened to be traveling and turned on the hotel tube to see Barbara Walters' appearance on Oprah talk about female power! Surprisingly, it sounds like Barbara has written an interesting book, which she titled, Audition: A Memoir because she's been doing just that her whole life. I picked up a copy and thumbed through it and here what is in store for all you BW fans. Auditions is published by Knopf May 6th,2008.

— "I'm not sure that I wasn't too candid," said Barbara Walters.

The longtime television interviewer was in her 10th-floor office at ABC on a recent afternoon, talking about her new autobiography, Audition.

In it, Walters spills about her guilt-ridden relationship with her mentally disabled older sister, her father's attempted suicide, her daughter's turbulent adolescence, her three failed marriages, and various run-ins with male colleagues.

Barbara Jill Walters (born September 25, 1929) is an American journalist, writer, and media personality who has been a regular fixture on morning television shows (Today and The View), an evening news magazine (20/20), and on The ABC Evening News. Walters was first known as a popular TV morning news anchor for over 10 years on NBC's Today, where she worked with Hugh Downs and later hosts Frank McGee and Jim Hartz. Walters later spent 25 years as co-host of ABC's newsmagazine 20/20. She was the first woman to co-anchor the network evening news, working with Harry Reasoner on The ABC Evening News.

Whether you like her interview style or not, you've got to hand it to Barbara for paving the way for female anchors in television news and newsmagazines. After more than forty years of interviewing heads of state, world leaders, movie stars, criminals, murderers, inspirational figures, and celebrities of all kinds, Barbara Walters has turned her gift for examination onto herself to reveal the forces that shaped her extraordinary life.
