Books to Film: December 2002

abstract:

The movie Adaptation promises to be one the most intriguing films of the year.

article:

December 05, 2002
— The movie Adaptation isn’t really an adaptation… well, sort of.  It’s about a screenwriter who is adapting Susan Orlean’s book The Orchid Thief, and what happens to him in the process. Nicolas Cage, Meryl Streep, and Chris Cooper star in the movie which opens December 6. Here's a link to a great book about the process, Principles of Adaptation for Film and Television.

Another much anticipated December movie is About Schmidt, starring Jack Nicholson and based on Louis Begley’s book.  Why not read the novel now to get the head’s up on the movie which opens December 13.

And Christmas wouldn’t be Christmas (and the Oscars wouldn’t be the Oscars either) without the second installment of Lord of the Rings:  The Two Towers, which opens on December 18. If you haven’t read the books when you were young, why not take the opportunity to read them now—or revisit them now if you loved them then!  If you’re a real afficianado, then #1, The Fellowship of the Ring,  is out on video.
