Peter Fonda did it in Easy Rider, Marlon Brando did it in The Wild One and now Ewen McGregor has just brought back the allure of motorbikes with his completed world tour on a BMW. If you've always been attracted to the sport and wonder if bugs in your teeth taste any different in Kazakhstan be sure and get Long Way Round

I have not been able to put down, Dead Reckoning: Great Adventure Writing from the Golden Age of Exploration 1800-1900.  Published by Outside Books and edited by Helen Wybrow, each gripping story is a classic adventure told in first person. Accounts of geographic discovery, personal odyssey from both legendary explorers and less well known but equally intrepid adventurers, including: John Wesley Powell's thrilling description of the first navigation down the wild Colorado River canyon; noted excerpt from the journals of Lewis and Clark; Mary Kingsley's lone travels through the jungles of West Africa.  32 varied and delicious stories in all.

And of course any list of adventure novels would be remiss if it did not include the most famous voyage whose failure was it's greatest telling and the making of Sir Ernest, South: The Last Antarctic Expedition of Shackleton and the Endurance

BookBuffet would love to hear your own stories of adventure or recommendations of books on the subject.  Please email: paulas@bookbuffet.com and we will post the most interesting response on the website.
