A new survey ranks the top 64 U.S. cities in terms of literacy. Number one is Minneapolis...

— A study by the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater Chancellor and education Professor Jack Miller maps literacy in America. Drawing from U.S. Census data, newspaper and magazine circulation rates, and bookseller and library resources, the study ranked the top 64 U.S. cities with a population over 250,000.


The top 10 cities are:

  1. Minneapolis
  2. Seattle
  3. Denver
  4. Atlanta
  5. San Francisco,
  6. Pittsburgh
  7. Washington
  8. Louisville
  9. Portland
  10. Cincinnati
