Author Birthdays: Gibran & Doctorow

Today is the birthday of Khalil Gibran (1883-1931). The poet (The Prophet) was born in Bisharri, Lebanon. He went on to write: "Yes, there is a Nirvana; it is in leading your sheep to a green pasture, and in putting your child to sleep, and in writing the last line of your poem."

Today is also the birthday of E.L. Doctorow (1931). His most well known work, Ragtime, intertwines fact and fiction in a sprawling tapestry of turn-of-the-century America.
