Our group really enjoyed this novel. Clearly Pearl S. Buck's time in China contributed to an authentic glimpse into the culture at a time when we had little opportunity to access translated works of literature from this country. How fortunate now that more and more books are becoming avail to us. A worthwhile read for your group - lots to discuss: love, jealosy, greed, honor, the issue of fate, cultural points, and more.
